  3.     In her talk with TIME (INTERVIEW, Aug. 21), advice
  4. columnist Ann Landers indicated that she is more inclined to
  5. refer her readers to mental-health professionals other than
  6. psychiatrists, since approximately 10% of the latter have
  7. admitted to having had sex with their patients. The actual
  8. figure is closer to 7%. More to the point, recent surveys
  9. indicate that the prevalence of therapist-patient sex is about
  10. the same for all groups of mental- health professionals,
  11. including psychologists, social workers and psychiatrists. There
  12. is no justification for singling out one discipline as more
  13. culpable.

  18.     My negative remarks about psychiatrists were uncalled for.
  19. I know there are many dedicated, caring psychiatrists, and to
  20. have made such a sweeping generalization was absurd. I should
  21. have taken my own advice: Measure twice; saw once.
